Empties | Out With The Old #6

2:16 PM

I can't \not\ mention my being away for a long time. I don't really have a good excuse, just the usual reasons that I'm sure we're all aware of. Life got busy, things happened. I got a new computer recently, so things are going to be looking generic and pretty boring while I get all my settings figured out and previous fonts transferred over to this new guy. This OWTO batch is pretty big, since I just kept tossing them in my 'toss' bag instead of actually tossing them.

Let's start with skincare, starting with the Almay Oil Free Eye Makeup Removing Pads - These are nice. I bought these in a pack of two these bottles. I like them, but would not purchase again - they leave sort of a sticky residue on my eyes and don't remove mascara well. I don't really wear mascara that much, mostly eyeliner, and this does the trick with eyeliner, but I wouldn't repurchase.

The Body Shop Shower Gels for Earth Lovers - Fig & Rosemary scent - This was a rather nice shower gel, albiet a very watery texture. This didn't bother me, as it foamed up well and was pretty cleansing. This particular scent didn't smell like either fig nor rosemary to me, and smelled like sage - a scent I love dearly that brings back wonderful memories. It's a sharp, spicey scent and I would certainly repurchase if I ever, ever run out of the millions of other shower gels I have sitting around waiting to be used.

Boots No7 Melting Gel Cleanser - I was certain I wrote a review on this but now can't find it. I have featured it in a few posts, the most detailed description of it is here. I like this, and it smelled very nice, but I will not be repurchasing. It was just kind of a hassle to use.

H20 Marine Toner - this toner has long been discontinued by the company. I think the full bottle of it costs $18, which is definitely not worth it for this product. It's not bad, but definitely not life changing. I wouldn't repurchase even if it was still out.

Yes to Cucumbers Calming Night Cream - I loved this moisturizer, loved it so much. It was thick and moisturizing, but sunk in very quickly. It smelled nice and soothing, and always left my skin happy and satisfied. I would definitely repurchase, and probably will.

Mary Kay Timewise Firming Eye Cream - this little bottle cost $30!! I got it as a present and luckily did not pay that much, and I definitely do not recommend. It took far too long to sink in and did literally nothing for my skin; didn't moisturize or plump up the area. The pump, while a nice touch, was also very difficult to control. If you pumped out all the way you'd probably get enough product for your entire face. That being said, there's a lot of product in the bottle, considering how little you really need to cover your eye area.

Meishoku Organic Rose Moisture Cream - this was a light moisturizer that smelled lovely and rosey. I liked it and would recommend; if I get the chance to buy this again I will, but I didn't love it enough to go out of my way to purchase it.

C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve - this is my favorite lip product of all time. It's the only one that really seems to work for me, giving me deep, long lasting moisture. I have repurchased since then and will probably never leave this lip balm.

Mary Kay Suncreen SPF 50 - this was a weird, thick cream that never seemed to sink in and would leave my limbs feeling oily and strange. Would not repurchase.

Yes to Cucumbers Daily Calming Moisturizer SPF 30 - oh my god, the things I could say about this. Bad things, to clarify. It was a thick, white paste that took so much effort to spread in; it smelled like cardboard, always left me ghostly white, and didn't sit well/feel good on my skin. I suppose one could argue that this is more of a sunscreen than a moisturizer, but I'd rather just stick with my Coola sunscreen. I will not be repurchasing.

LO'ocitane Shea Butter Hand Cream - Personally I don't like the scent of shea butter, as it smells too much like diaper ointment to me. This is a really thick hand cream that does deeply moisturize, but the scent just bothered me too much. It also separated into a strange oil/cream mixture towards the end. Will not repurchase.

Be warned, most of this makeup is old and disliked, hence why I'm tossing most of them. The four lip products (Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm, NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss, Elizabeth Arden lipstick) are all products I just don't use anymore, so why keep them around? They're all fine, but just fine.

NYX HD Concealer - This bottle is half empty, and I still can't make up my mind about it. It's very high coverage, but accentuates any flaws on your skin. So while you could definitely use it to cover up some bumpy, discolored skin (like my chin and nose), it would bring attention to the uneven skin texture and cling desperately to any dry patches of skin. It's also too thick to use under the eyes. I will not be repurchasing.

Sonia Kashuk Liquid Light Concealers - these are my favorite liquid concealers! As the name implies, they have a light texture that is comfortable to wear. The coverage isn't incredible, but the concealers are luminizing and will bounce light from any trouble spots. I have already repurchase both these shades, as they're perfect for my undereyes and on my scars.

NYX Eyeshadow Base - NYX has several versions of this; this is the nude shade. There's also a white color and one to help with glitter, and a liquid HD primer that I happen to love. A lot of people say that this product works excellently for them, but it just didn't cooperate with me. It would crease and ruin any eyeshadow I was wearing on top of it. I really liked the texture though, and the price was definitely agreeable. While I myself wouldn't repurchase, I encourage anyone with $5 to spare to try it out.

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr whatever it's called - this product is old as hell, and I've never really used it. Time to go!

Victoria's Secret Volume Plump Mascara - I think this was part of a BOGO deal or something; I didn't expect to like it but I really did! It lasted all day without smudging and always removed easily. It accentuated my lashes and I would repurchase.

NYX Gel Liner and Smudger - this liner is old and drying out. I really liked it, except that it dried out way too fast! But the creaminess and opaqueness of the product definitely warrant a repurchase.

That's all for today, thanks for reading!

Out With The Old #3

4:09 PM

Hi guys! I'm back today for another OWTO post. There are only a few products in here today, but I really wanted to talk about an... experience I had.

Kenra Boosting Spray Foam
This is basically a spray (not quite hairspray, but it does hold your style) that volumizes hair. I thought this was a great idea because I have thin, flat hair, and truthfully it did volumize to an extent but oh man the smell. It was so strong. It smelled like apples and lemons, but imagine them shoved up your nose and seeping into your brain. I had to turn on the bathroom fan and air it out just to get rid of the way too strong scent all three times I used this. I just had to toss it. I will not be repurchasing. Especially not for the $17 I got it at at the salon.

Pssssst! Dry Shampoo
A lot of people like this dry shampoo, and rightfully so! It absorbs oil pretty well and hair a light, neutral scent. The only problem I have with this is that it leaves a tad bit of white cast, but otherwise it was great. Really affordable as well! Will not be repurchasing but only because of the white cast.

Garnier Fructis
Since this ran out I've seen a big difference in my hair... it misses this oil. I really liked this! It smelled great, was really good for smoothing and hydrating. I would repurchase, but Garnier is a company that tests on animals, so I won't.

Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water
I'm still really conflicted about this product. Cleansing waters aren't popular here in the States. This was the first one I ever tried, and I kind of liked it. It left a bit of a stick residue on my skin, but it took off makeup well and I really liked how convenient it was. I might repurchase - we'll see if I find another cleansing water first.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash
This is a big favorite among a lot of people, but it just didn't do anything for me. It's not quite empty, but this bottle is really old and only gathering dust so I figured I'd toss it. It's not good at taking off makeup, doesn't foam up at all, smells weird, and honestly I found no difference in my acne. Will not repurchase.

Petal Fresh face mask??
I literally can't find a clue of this existing. I guess the brand has shut down, which makes sense since I bought it in Taiwan (although it's apparently an American brand). Anyways, this was a peel off mask - applies like a gel, peels off. Very cool, but also very high alcohol content. I don't want to be keeping that on my face. Would and can't repurchase.

Yes To Grapefruits Dark Spot Correcting Body Creme
I liked this body butter for the formula, not for dark spot correction. For that latter, it was just kind of useless. However, I did really like the formula. It smelled nice but the scent didn't linger (I prefer that), absorbed in very quickly, and also hydrated pretty well. Really great morning lotion. I may or may not repurchase - when I get rid of my dark spots I def will.

Only one of these products here is empty actually, the rest I just don't use anymore.

Mineral Essence Foundation in M3
I bought this online, and judging by the only picture and description I thought I'd at least be able to pull this off in the summer. Wrong. This shade was so much darker than my skin tone, and way too orange to be used as a contour as well. Although the powder was finely milled, there was a lot of shimmer in this and I don't think I'll repurchase.

No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara
This tube was actually a repurchase. Although this is a nice mascara that provides a lot of natural looking volume and curl, I don't think I'll repurchase. It's just not enough volume and curl for me. I do recommend for those with more full lashes however, as it never flakes and rarely smudges.

No7 Beautiful Eyebrow Pencil
I originally really liked this pencil... but upon stumbling onto my favorite pencil, I realized that this isn't very good. The overly-waxy and hard pencil didn't last very long at all, and was hard to brush out. Would not repurchase.

Tokidoki Lip Gloss
This brand used to be available at Sephora, but they've stopped stocking them for quite some time now, actually. This gloss had zero pigmentation, despite the tube looking so bright and fun. It was super shiny and smelled good, and I have nothing wrong with the product, it's just old and I never ever used it.

NYX HD Eye Primer
If you'll remember, this was in my haul from last week. That's right, I'm already tossing it. I dropped it this morning and the top snapped right off! This includes the twisty part where the wand goes. Not only did the packaging have a major flaw, I wasn't particularly impressed with this. It made the shadow last a lot longer, but didn't help with creasing at all. If anything, it made my lids even more oily and never seemed to really dry or set.

What the actual fuck? How does that happen?

That's all for today! Thanks for reading~

Out With The Old | #2

2:21 PM

Hellllooooooo. Today I've got an Out With The Old Post. This is quite similar to an empties post, but rather than just empty products, these also include products I'm tossing for other reasons. Sorry the pictures are so bright, I'm not quite sure why I couldn't tone it down.

Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash - Empty
I love this stuff. I'm really upset that it's out. This face wash is really great - it removes makeup well, deep cleans, doesn't strip the skin, smells nice, and is at an affordable price. Would repurchase.

2 Ponds Deep Cleansing Mud Cleansers - Empty
These are both from Taiwan. They were really good at cleansing the skin, but they left my skin with the "squeaky clean" feeling, which I wasn't looking for. Wouldn't repurchase, but it's not a bad product.

St. Ives Green Tea Scrub - Empty
People rave about this exfoliater. It's a nice product; gently buffs away skin and smells nice, but once again, it left my skin feeling squeaky. Would not repurchase.

Obiqo Gentle Face Scrub - Empty
Wayyyyy too gentle. Didn't do anything for my face except leaving it smelling like ginger. Shudders. I hate ginger. Would not repurchase.

Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 50 - Nope
I gave this guy so many chances. Every time I used this, it would leave me with a face of dry, itchy, uncomfortable patches. I gave up with it after a while. Would not repurchase.

Garnier Skin Renew Anti Puff Eye Roller - Didn't do anything
Man, I tried to like this. I really did. Unfortunately, it just did nothing for my skin! Yes, the cooling ball felt nice, but the actual product? Kind of a gimmick and didn't really do much. Would not repurchase.

HABA Sunscreen Stick SPF 35 PA +++
Too light. Smelled too weird. Accentuated dry patches. Would not repurchase.

Earth Therputics Hydrogel Under-Eye Recovery Patch - Empty
These undereye patches were really great! They perked up my puffiness and felt really nice. They weren't wet, smelled really nice, and were affordable. Would repurchase.

The Body Shop Sweet Lemon Shower Gel - Empty
I don't know if you know this about me, but I'm a sucker for anything lemon. The gel of this itself was an average gel, but oh mama the scent... Dear lord it was amazing. Would repurchase.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil - Empty
This oil is a really sweet chocolate scented oil. The oil claims to help with dark marks and stretch marks as well, which I found to be true, but you have to use the oil for quite some time. It sunk in really fast, and was actually decent at hydrating my legs. Would probably repurchase.

Organic Tea Tree Soap from serenityaplaceforeveryone.com - Empty
I used this on my back and chest for my bacne. Damn, I love it. Cleared the area right up. Would repurchase.

L'Occitane Rose Hand Cream - Empty
This cream was really nice! I liked the rose scent a lot. It was silky and sunk in quickly. If it weren't for the high price, I would definitely repurchase.

Kirkland Signature Borghese Mineral Sheer Foundation, Mineral Exact Match Concealer, Powder - Old
These products were good - they're simply old. The powder I almost used up, and then dropped and it proceeded to crack away. Although these products were good, they weren't remarkable and I wouldn't repurchase.

Crest 3D White Whitestrips - Empty
These do work. I was weary that they would make my teeth sensitive, but even weirder - they only made like, three specific teeth sensitive. I don't think I would repurchase because they're really expensive and there are better teeth whitening products out there.

Glisten Mop Shinedrops - Old
I stopped using this ages ago. This was supposed to be a hair oil that was for shine, but it didn't really do much. I wouldn't repurchase.

Que Bella Detoxifying Dead Sea Mask - Empty
Burned my face. A lot. However, it was really good for my back and chest, drawing out sebum and oil. Would not repurchase.

Lollia Relax Hand Cream Sachet - Empty
DAMN was this nice. It was scented nicely, sunk in quick, and felt silky. Would repurchase.

B&BW Fresh Picked Strawberries Hand Sanitizer - Empty
Just a hand sanitizer! I'm not too picky about those, so I don't really care if I would repurchase or not.

Zatik Herbal Refresh Deoderant - Awful
Supposedly unscented, but no. No. No. Scented. But scented like crap.

Out With The Old #1

11:52 AM

Hey, guys! How are you today? I decided I'm going to start a new series of posts, similar to empties. However, these aren't empty products, but things that I'm going to get rid of, whether given away or tossed because it's bad or empty. I wanted to do these instead of empties because I don't finish up products quickly, but I'm going to write a mini-review on the products anyways. Today I've got an armful of products, some new and unused because I'm going away and I'm going to give these to my friends.

1. Ponds Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Creme (Normal/Dry) - empty. The label peeled off! This is the formula for normal to dry skin. There are two versions of this, one for normal/oily skin and one for normal/dry skin. I had mixed feelings about this product; while it definitely did help with dark spots, it was too heavily fragranced and could be irritating for some people, and didn't quite provide me with enough moisture. I would not repurchase.

2. Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish Stick - empty. This wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either. The packaging was really unhygienic, it came in rollerball form, so aren't you essentially rolling the bacteria back onto your skin? Anyways, like I said, it was neither good nor bad. I had to dip a damped q-tip into the product, which wasted a lot of product, but I feel like this worked to an extent. It dried out any pimples considerably, but that was only a temporary fix, as the blemish would pop back up. I would not repurchase.

3. Equate Nail Polish Remover - empty. I had this for ages, as I went about two years or so without wearing nail polish. This was supposed to be a Target knockoff of Cutex remover. I honesty don't care what brand takes off my nail polish, as long as it gets it done. This did just that, with a bit of elbow grease. It didn't leave my nails feeling brittle or dry. I do not care if I repurchase.

4. No7 Maximum Volume Mascara - empty/old. This was not a very good mascara. First of all, this is the only Boots mascara I have seen without a little blurb on the packaging with claims. This must mean that Boots doesn't believe in this mascara, because I certainly didn't. Second of all, the mascara did not live up to the name - maximum volume? You can hardly say that if all the mascara does is color your lashes. It didn't provide volume, length, curl, or definition. In fact, the formula never seemed to really dry and I had to be really careful blinking until it somewhat dried. I would never repurchase. What a waste of money.

5. No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara - empty. After that rather negative mini review on the last No7 mascara, I thought I'd bring you a positive one. I liked this mascara - it gave me natural looking volume and length, and even curled my stick straight lashes with the nifty wand. It never smudged, flaked, or budged, but it was really easy to remove with some makeup remover. I would repurchase, and plan to the next time I go to Target.

6. NYX Za Za Zu Mascara - almost new, giving away. I used this mascara once. It's a fiber mascara, so I expected a lot of volume and length, but it didn't really give me very much. Not to say that this was a bad mascara, as I could visibly see more volume, but not nearly as much as I expected and with barely any length. The mascara also has a very dry formula, which isn't bad but it made the mascara flake a bit, and the fibers would flake into my eyes. The wand is also waaaaaay too big. I didn't dislike it, it just wasn't for me so I would not repurchase.

7. Nivea Lip Butter (Raspberry Rose Kiss) - used a few times, giving away. These products are really lovely, very moisturizing. However, this one left with me with such a terrible white cast! I've been using it to remove stubborn lip products, but that's it. I can't stand the white cast. I would not repurchase this particular one.

8. Boots Extracts Almond Lip Balm - used a few times, giving away. I have the coconut version of this lip balm, and I loved it, so I went and bought this one. I really wanted to like it, but I hate the smell. The formula itself is good, nice and moisturizing, but man the smell... I would not repurchase this particular one.

9. Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal 24hr Eyeshadow (Inked In Pink) - used a few times, giving away. This was a nice product. Read my full review here. I'm not keeping it because I barely use it, but I would repurchase if Maybelling stopped testing on animals.

10. Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm (Rosy Red) - used a few times, giving away. This is a lovely product. Ready my full review here. However, the color is just not for me. I would not repurchase this particular shade.

11. Essie No Place Like Chrome - used a few times, giving away. Essie products are always so and so with me. While they're opaque in a couple coats, they chip so easily. This product was one of those. It's a very nice shade,  chrome, but it's something that I barely wore and it would chip off within two days without a top coat. I would not repurchase.

12. No7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil (Brown) - used once, giving away. I did not like this product. Review coming soon. It was generally bad; the wood was spintery, it didn't have great color payoff, and it smudged. I would not repurchase.

13. NYX Slide On Eyeliner (Black Sparkle) - used once, giving away. This is a really nice product. Read my full review here. It's just not something that I would use. I would not repurchase this particular shade.

14. Wet n Wild Coloricon Eyeliner (Black) - used once, giving away. This pencil was surprisingly good, the color payoff was intense and you got a ton of product for one dollar. The problem was that this smudged on my oily lids, otherwise it was a nice product. It just wasn't for me, so I would not repurchase.

15. Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer (Rhubarb) - used a couple times, giving away. There was nothing wrong with this product, I just wasn't using it. Read my full review here. I would repurchase if something came up when I needed it.

16. Maybelline Masterdrama Cream Eye Pencil (Midnight Master) - used a few times, giving away. I wanted to like this, as everyone else who has it says it's nice... but we just didn't get along. The packaging won't retract, and the first time I ever used it I had to twist for about five minutes until the product came up. It smudged and moved around on my lids. I would not repurchase.

17. Bath and Body Works Lipilicious Mint Glass - used a few times, giving away. I'm not a big lip gloss person. This was a nice gloss, super shiny and smelled like mint chocolate, I just don't love lip gloss. I would not repurchase simply because I don't like lip gloss.

I also have a few new and unused products that I'm (you guessed it) giving away. I don't have anything to say about these products, because I've never tried them...

NYX Le Frou Frou Mascara
NYX Faux Lashes Mascara
Jill Stuart Jelly Lip Gloss Trio
Material Girl Lip Gloss
